It's fair to say that 2016's Doom reboot was a far better game than just about anyone outside of Bethesda expected, and though 2017 has seen the game get ported to Nintendo Switch and spun-off in VR form, fans are undeniably hungry for a proper follow-up.

The reboot set a fantastic foundation for the series moving forward, so as long as the sequel can avoid feeling like a churned-out retread, there's no reason to doubt this being anything other than another terrifically cathartic shooter.

How Likely Is It?: By the time E3 rolls around, Doom will be more than two years old, so that feels like ample time to have the sequel in a workable state for a gameplay reveal.

It really comes down to where Bethesda's priorities lie, but Doom's unexpected success has likely resulted in the sequel being fast-tracked.

With the publisher suffering through an embarrassing number of flops recently, with Dishonoured 2, Prey, The Evil Within 2 and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus all failing to meet sales standards, announcing Doom II as soon as possible would be an easy way to calm those twitchy investors down. 8/10
