If you're here to find some unsung gems then look no further. 40 Winks was released exclusively for the Playstation in November, 1999. The plot follows two young children, Ruff and Tumble, as they explore the dreamworld to rescue a group of "winks" responsible for dreaming. The arch-villain is Nitekap - a grumpy, old man who has kidnapped the winks to keep all the pleasant dreams to himself. This game is a load of fun and will draw you in with it's outstanding environments and easy manoeuvrability. But why is it on this list? Well, these outstanding environments feature a generally eerie ambiance. This is part of what makes the game so fun! Most of the atmosphere is presented at night, and the very first world you'll traverse is a nightmare full of Halloween monsters. The game will warp you back into the mindset of a child roaming the dark halls on a stormy night. Though the later worlds begin to take on a more light and cheery atmosphere the plot remains a perfect one to play on a late, October evening. If you haven't tried it already check eBay to pick up the game at a decent price. You'll be glad you did.
