13 Video Games To Play On Halloween (That Aren't Horror-Themed)

6. The Professor Layton Series

Proflayton

Halloween has always been defined by the genres of horror and the paranormal, but none can deny that mystery completes the triad of what exemplifies the Halloween theme. The Professor Layton series for the Nintendo DS can best be described as somewhat of a cross between the stories of Agatha Christie, and Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes. Throw in some interactive gameplay and you have a hit on your hands. The first game in the series, Professor Layton and the Curious Village, introduces the title character and his entourage as well as his general modus operandi. The game turns into a murder mystery in which the sequence of events are determined by the player's actions. The game takes place in a dark village full of secrets - see the image above - which is a perfect setting to become involved with during Halloween. The second game in the series, the Diabolical Box, features the mystery of an artifact akin to Pandora's Box which is fabled to kill anyone who may open it. You'll have loads of fun with any of the games in the Professor Layton series with over 100 puzzles to explore in each! To get into the spirit of Halloween you'll do best with the first two games in the series, but the real contender for your attention is the fourth game, Professor Layton and the Last Specter, which features the creepiest of environments and a plot involving a dark beast perfect for some good scares.
