14 Awesome-Sounding Video Game Sequels That Will Never Happen

12. Left 4 Dead 3

Left 4 Dead 2
Valve

Valve's Left 4 Dead seemed like it was going to be the next big franchise when the first and second games released in 2008 and 2009 respectively, both scoring strong critical acclaim, and by 2011, the series had sold an extremely impressive 11 million units.

It seemed natural that Left 4 Dead 3 would end up releasing by no later than 2011 or 2012, and honestly Valve probably could've turned it into an annual franchise if they really wanted to be greedy, but instead they opted to do nothing beyond some DLC releases for the second game.

The series' enduring popularity means that Valve could randomly drop L4D3 tomorrow and it would sell millions, and all it'd need to do is have shinier graphics, and a few new maps and characters.

Why It Will Never Happen: Even ignoring the jokes about Valve being unable to count to three, the company clearly isn't interested in developing AAA games anymore, and when they're pulling in billions per year from distributing just about every PC game there is, why would they?

Bury any and all hope you have for this series getting a continuation. It's not happening. Not ever.
