14 Awesome Summer 2017 Video Games You Probably Missed
14. Observer
From the developers behind Layers of Fear comes this stylish cyberpunk survival horror in which players get to control Rutger Hauer in a technologically advanced dystopia where he can hack into people's memories. Observer is at least as awesome as that premise sounds.
More a trippy walking simulator than an outright horror game, this is nevertheless one of the summer's more creative titles, with a compellingly creepy narrative, likeable lead character, eye-wateringly pretty visuals (it's also incredibly well-optimised on PC), and skin-crawlingly good sound design.
Aside from a few irritating trial-and-error stealth sequences, Observer remains captivating for the entirety of its six-ish hour play-time, and demonstrates some of the more unexpected directions this genre of video game can go.
Sonic Mania may've stolen almost all of its thunder by releasing on the very same day, but in this brief period of respite before the late-year video game deluge, you've got no excuse not to try it.
