14 Best SNES Games You Might Have Missed
1. Illusion Of Time/Gaia
The second Enix title on this list, that pre-dates Terranigma but is still a fantastic game.
Unlike most RPG's/action-adventure fantasy games of the time, Illusion of Time (or Gaia in America) had its storyline running through real-world locations.
Set across a globe-trotting backdrop, Will and companions saw themselves heading to the Great Wall of China, the Nazca Ruins and Angkor Wat, to name a few. Tasked with finding seven statues to prevent a life-ending comet-cum-evil force from ruining everyone's weekend, it was nice to see real and fantasy events running side by side.
It also utilised the ability to play as three characters when the story required: Will had basic combat and telekinesis at his disposal, the Dark Knight Freedan has stronger combat abilities, and endgame spirit Shadow could morph through floors and had superior strength.
A grand tale of growing up, fate, betrayal and otherworldly forces, Illusion of Time was a beautiful action-RPG that, as most were at the time, "not as good as Link to the Past". Look past that though, and there's a fantastic game in here.
