14 Completely Overlooked PS4 Games You're Totally Missing Out On
Are you getting the most out of your machine?
Back when the PS4 first launched, the PS Store was a barren wasteland. Aside from the likes of Killzone, Knack and Assassin's Creed (there's always at least one of them), it felt as though the consoles had arrived early, with barely anything to really recommend.
Then the indie rush happened, and games created on far smaller budgets started peppering the retail space, filling up the storefront and providing suitable alternatives to the more spotlight-hugging titles of the triple-A scene.
It's not that ever overlooked game is always an indie project, which of those that are, which are worth playing? Games with smaller teams tend to take more chances on innovative game mechanics and storytelling methods - it's pretty much the constantly-shifting gaming scene of the 90s, existing right alongside the more 'bankable' blockbusters of the modern era.
So why not play something a bit different? Your PS4 can show you so much more than just what Nathan Drake is up to, you know...
14. Rebel Galaxy
If You Already Like: Mass Effect, Borderlands, No Man's Sky.
Like the Firefly game we never got, you can tell this August PS Plus offering has been selected to get us all prepped for No Man's Sky.
Ostensibly feeling like the naval combat from Assassin's Creed: Black Flag but in space, you embark on a story-lite quest to barrel across the cosmos, forging alliances with various factions, speccing your ship in thousands of directions, upgrading equipment and - best of all - blasting the holy hell out of anyone in your way.
Yes, you can be a nefarious space pirate if you like (the game will even back up your exploits with some raucous slide guitar), or you can befriend all, trade with many and only hire grubby mercenaries to help out when the mission calls for it.
It's this freeform sense of exploration that gives Rebel Galaxy a similar identity to what No Man's Sky is sure to ape in the coming weeks, providing the perfect primer if you're looking to scratch that high-tec space-age itch right now.
