I can't hide my love for Shovel Knight - it's easily one of the most perfectly assembled platformers in decades; a concoction of charming code you'll play through once, only to dive back in another few hundred times.

Put it this way: If Shovel Knight had launched back in the 80s, it'd be he who emblazons merchandise and childhood memories the world over, not Super Mario. It's got that level of lovability.

Gameplay is standard side-scrolling platformer fare, but with a downward shovel-bounce you can navigate more treacherous enemy placements, alongside unlocking a handful of additional abilities and armour sets as you go.

Developers Yacht Club are some of the most gifted in the business, and with a handful of DLC packs giving you more characters and levels for free, both their and Shovel Knight's heart are most definitely in the right place.
