14 Fan-Made Sonic Games That Succeed Where Sega Failed

1. Sonic Utopia

Sonic Utopia is the ultimate blast of blue hedgehog nostalgia we've ever seen.

Instead of utilizing Unreal Engine to imitate the 15 year old Sonic Adventure games, Sonic Utopia is a wholly original engine, designed from the ground up as a reimagining of everything Sonic is about. Just look at it, for heaven's sake!

Visually, it's a perfect blend of sharp and colourful retro design. The controls smoothly retain your momentum as you run and jump up and down shifting walls, making Sonic Adventure look like a janky mess. Even the stage design is exactly what Sonic games have needed- a breath of fresh air, encouraging high speed exploration and memorization like the games of yesteryear. At least, it's better than tacky on-rails design that plague Sonic's good recent outings.

Utopia, even in it's relative immaturity, still manages to look and play bloody spectacular. Just imagine what the future looks like for this one.

Sega, please hire this man immediately.
