14 Greatest Video Game Villains Of The Decade (So Far)

11. Zachary Hale Comstock - BioShock Infinite (2013)

It wouldn't be a Ken Levine-directed game if there wasn't some controversy surrounding its contents, and BioShock Infinite is no exception to the rule. The way in which religion and fanaticism were presented in Infinite did little to quell the raging fires of hatred from certain groups of people. Many claimed that the game's entire narrative message was a rather thinly-veiled one; that religion leads to the creation of evil people. Despite that view being utter garbage, Infinite did do a terrific job in reminding the world that extremists can be found in every religion - not just the ones you hear about in the news every second of every day. Ruling the floating city of Columbia through the use of a Christian cult of personality, Zachary Comstock is one of the most interestingly-written villains of any video game, and his origins - without wanting to spoil the ending for those of you who STILL haven't played Infinite - are a terrific take on the long-lived debate of whether people are born to be evil.
