3. Silent Hill 3
It's not a Silent Hill game without a horrifying fake-out opening. Following in the footsteps of the original game, this revered third entry into the franchise starts out by throwing you right into the thick of it, defenceless and alone in an abandoned amusement park.
As you find yourself searching for a reason as to why you're there in the first place you're bombarded by a series of monsters, and with no way to defend yourself, the only option you have is to flee.
The opening itself is eerily similar to the original game bar one major difference: once the monsters arrive in this title, you actually have the ability to escape. This small change makes you think that what you're playing in this opening is actually real, and that your goal isn't just to die to start the game proper as in the original game, but to actually escape your pursuers.
Of course, the monsters you're running from are simply too overwhelming in number and one way or another you're going to meet your untimely demise. Not to worry though, as it turns out it's just one in a series of long-term nightmares protagonist Heather has been having about a certain spooky town.
