What Works?

Only the kings of the western RPG could deliver a multi-faceted, multi-layered behemoth like Fallout 4.

In just a few hours you'll go from blasting apart Super Mutants and collecting crafting components to searching for your missing child and trying to survive by building a settlement. At any given time there are handfuls of quest goals and story beats to take in, resulting in one of the biggest open-world sandboxes this generation.

As a pure RPG, something that lets you design a character from the ground up, choose various ability perks and breathe in the world at your own pace, Bethesda creates a sense of design no other developer could ever come close to.

What Doesn't?

Thanks to being such a gargantuan experience, you'll seldom go longer than a few moments without a glitch, bad texture or animation bug kicking into view. This wouldn't be a problem if it was Bethesda's first RPG, but that segues into the main problem so many people bounced off Fallout 4: It feels almost exactly like Fallout 3, save the upended combat model.

When viewed through the lens of expectation, the money Bethesda had on-hand and the amount of time they had to develop, polish and refine what was hyped as "the next Fallout", coming out with such an identikit feel was nothing short of painfully disappointing.
