14 Most Surprising Metacritic Scores Of 2017
10. Star Wars Battlefront II (68)
After 2015's Star Wars Battlefront scored a solid if undeniably underwhelming 73 with critics, EA assured fans that the follow-up would act as an apology of sorts.
Not only did EA sing the praises of a new cinematic campaign, but they insisted the game would come complete with a larger wealth of content from every Star Wars era, and better still, there wouldn't even be a season pass.
This all sounded great, but as with their Need for Speed: Payback, pesky micro-transactions ended up ruining a lot of the fun, proving so interwoven into the multiplayer progression system that removing them (temporarily) still left behind a slog of an online suite.
As for that promised single-player campaign? It lasted about four hours and was comprised mostly of multiplayer skirmishes lazily plugged in, while much like its predecessor, the multiplayer was intermittently fun if ultimately quite hollow and soulless.
Few could've expected Battlefront II to score less than its predecessor, but such is the extent of EA's patent greed, and thankfully the video game press collectively flipped them the bird in response.
