Easily one of the most surprising and fanboy-pleasing announcements coming out of Gamescom was the reveal that classic 2000 PS1 cyber-thriller Fear Effect is getting a remake, Fear Effect Reinvented, due out sometime next year.

Considering the original's lavish production values and firm status as a cult classic, few likely expected the game to get the full remake treatment, complete with a new control scheme and sharper visuals.

What's more, Fear Effect Reinvented will release for Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC, ensuring everyone, existing fan or not, gets a chance to experience the superbly cinematic adventure for themselves next year.

It'll be interesting to see how the remake handles some of the more dated, arguably sexist elements of the original game (though the sequel was way worse in this regard), but it'll nevertheless be a joy to see the game in a glorious new visual fidelity.
