14 Video Games That Prove Local Multiplayer Is The Best

6. Goldeneye 007

Goldeneye made split-screen multiplayer shooters popular on consoles. It's the grandfather of the modern shooter, essentially and much like anything old and obsolete it deserves our respect, even if it does kind of suck by today's standards. That's not to say there isn't fun to be had with this classic, however. The controls take a lot of adjusting to, meaning that when you dig it out and play it with friends you'll all be on an even playing field. Who will master the controls first? Who will remember where all the spawn points are and place proximity mines on them because they're completely evil? Who will desperately suggest playing something else because their eyes have become spoiled by HD and can no longer tolerate the blurriness of the N64's graphics? Whoever says that, kindly cut them out of your social circle. Goldeneye's multiplayer modes are pretty good on their own, but when combined with cheats and they become awesomely ridiculous. Play Slaps only License To Kill with turbo mode and DK mode activated and laughs will be had. It may be dated, but it doesn't take itself too seriously. Watching Oddjob kill Bond with a single slap to the crotch has a surreal appeal that will most likely outlive us all.

When I'm not playing games, I'm probably either writing about them somewhere or singing stupid songs inspired by them. Or eating pizza.
