14 Video Games That Prove Local Multiplayer Is The Best

7. Rayman Legends

Rayman Legends H Wii U may be struggling when it comes to selling units, but it seems to be way ahead of the curve when it comes to providing interesting local multiplayer experiences. Rayman Legends is a fantastic platformer regardless of which platform you play it it on, but the Wii U version has the edge thanks to the GamePad's second screen that's perfect for asymmetric multiplayer mayhem. In certain levels, the player with the GamePad gets to play as Rayman's sidekick Murphy, helping their buddies make their way through a level by cutting vines, pulling platforms and tickling enemies to distract them. The first levels start off easy, but they soon become devilishly difficult. One of the later levels sees Rayman being chased by a fire-breathing Dragon through a labyrinth of spikes, circular saws and platforms that Murphy has to cut loose at exactly the right moment. It all climaxes in a stupidly hard section in which Rayman has to jump from one free-falling platform to another in quick succession. There is absolutely no room for error here at all. Everyone has to be completely in sync or you'll get stuck replaying the same section forever. Or at least until you get bored and do something else. It's a true test of friendship. If you and your mates can make it through this one without resorting to verbal abuse, then you're probably either really good friends or ridiculously polite, patient (and possibly emotionally repressed) people.

When I'm not playing games, I'm probably either writing about them somewhere or singing stupid songs inspired by them. Or eating pizza.
