15 Best Batman Video Games - Ranked

1. Batman: Arkham Asylum

Maybe this was a forgone conclusion, or perhaps you favour the likes of Arkham City as your Rocksteady game of choice. Regardless, Arkham Asylum is the perfect Batman game, for all manner of reasons the devs nailed first time round:

Bats himself is a towering mound of muscle and intent, casting the perfect shadow and landing punches with the weight of a heavyweight boxer. The story moves at a blistering pace, with a truly enjoyable cast of characters all getting their time to shine. We get copious amounts of nods to the wider fiction, interviews with every member of the rogue's gallery, Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill deliver some of the best performances of their lives, and it has one of the most quintessential 'Batman moments' in the character's history.

That being, the 'Batcave scene'.

Unveiled after Bruce has been through a few boss fights and seen his suit get torn up, suddenly he mentions a secret Batcave hidden inside Arkham Island. Even Oracle is surprised, but that's precisely why it's so fantastic - Batman should always be holding all the cards, he should have prepared something so jaw-droppingly cool, just for a moment like this. Rocksteady even scripted Batman's response to Oracle asking how he kept it a secret as, "It's me, remember?"

Flying down into the Batcave is one of the coolest moments in gaming, yet also reminds us just how much we love controlling Batman and inhabiting the mind of Bruce Wayne, all in one.

Arkham Asylum is still the best Batman game for many more moments just like this, and if there's any chance it slipped you by, remedy that immediately.
