15 Best Hidden Gem Video Games Of The Decade
4. Hitman
Hitman has had a rough time commercially over the past decade. Absolution was an attempt to bring the series to a wider audience by 'streamlining' (which in video game terms always mean ripping out the things fans love) the stealth and free-form elements.
After that disappointment, Hitman Season 1 was conceived to ride the episodic hype at the time. Unfortunately, the new structure was treated with caution by fans, who assumed the release was going to be nothing more than an under-developed bunch of levels that wouldn't be worth it until every episode was out (and even then it had a lot to prove after Absolution).
However, the new schedule was actually a blessing in disguise. The developers were up to the challenge, and it meant each new level was packed with content and ways to play, designed to be revisited with different tactics over and over again.
While it might not have been delivered like the older instalments, Hitman embraced the core pillars that made those titles so enjoyable for a whole new generation, and made the best stealth game of the entire decade, until the sequel came around anyway.
