15. Batman: Arkham Origins

In the dying embers of the 2010s, Arkham Origins has enjoyed something of a small reappraisal, but it shouldn't be forgotten that for the majority of its life, this spin-off was treated as the unwanted afterbirth of a glorious superhero trilogy.

Crafted purely as a stop-gap between the final two "main" Arkham games, Origins' corporate reason to exist is no secret, but the devs at WB Montreal overcame those limitation to deliver a worthy follow-up that deviates from the core instalments in worthwhile ways.

Sure, there's a lot of familiarity present in the gameplay and setting, but the spin-off arguably boasts a better story than its more popular siblings, and certainly one which embraces the nastier, edgier elements of the Batman mythos.

In a way it's kind of like the New Vegas of the Batman series; an 'unnecessary' spin-off that was initially poorly received, but which has since been embraced by the die-hards as the cream of the crop.
