15 Best Indie Video Games Of 2016 (So Far)
2. Firewatch
Continuing on where the glorious Gone Home left off in 2013, 2016's Firewatch is a 'walking simulator' created by a supergroup of ex-The Walking Dead and Klei Entertainment staff, resulting in a game that explores all sorts of notions in regards to isolation, friendship, love and accountability.
After one hell of a gut-punching introductory sequence, you'll play as Henry, a man who takes a job in the middle of the Wyoming wilderness, and is left with a voice on the radio, Delilah; a fellow 'firewatcher' who's posted across the valley.
To go into everything that happens would spoil the overwhelmingly effective atmosphere, but sufficed to say there are a number of talking points that stem from this feeling of loneliness. The occasional high-points of your new 'adventure' factor into reflecting on why we have such a 'fight or flight' response when it comes to life's hardships, and truly, Firewatch is a confident and exemplary work of fiction that we'll be talking about for years to come.
