There's something about farming simulators that just stirs and satisfies a primitive hunter-gatherer within us to really get invested. Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons and Farmville more than realised this, and 2016's Stardew Valley also delivered on the idea perfectly.

Now, it must be said that Stardew is a near-carbon copy of Harvest Moon, right down to the interactions you'll have with cutesy villagers and the fact you'll sell your produce by plonking it in a small box for collection, but being there's not been a truly brilliant entry in that series for years, thousands of fans have just let it slide.

Sublimely addictive and wonderfully charming in every respect, Stardew Valley will have you over for tea, only to see you buying a house the following week.
