7. Unravel

For some reason (probably because its indie push came from EA, otherwise known as The Devil Incarnate these days), Unravel just didn't catch on back in February.

And that's a shame, because from its control scheme to the unabashed joy that is watching Yarny swing through levels on a fuzzy piece of his own thread, the whole production is charm incarnate. Ostensibly it plays like Limbo, if Playdead's morose platformer was a gift basket retirement package given to someone who's retired to the European countryside.

Humble beginnings see you leaping and bounding through some stunningly picturesque landscapes, latching your thread onto various branches and even the occasional animal companion. There's an inherent fragility in venturing away from the confines of your owner's homestead, and that provides a level of Hobbit-esque "I'm going on an adventure!"-style narrative framework that - personally - had me smiling throughout.
