15 Best Indie Video Games Of 2016 (So Far)
8. Salt & Sanctuary
Speaking of Dark Souls, developers Ska Studios are clearly huge fans, as their 2D tribute is so on-point with its comparisons, it almost makes you wonder how they avoided a lawsuit.
Literally, not even the Namco-licensed 'Slashy Souls' was as close to that series' look and feel as this, but thankfully that's before you realise how incredibly in-depth and brutally hard S&S is. Literally being everything you'd expect from a '2D Dark Souls', you'll rank up through weapon and item combos at a steady pace, battle towering monsters, study boss attack patterns, retrieve your sou-salt if you die, and everything in between.
Wearing its heart on its sleeve and punching the sky while screaming "Praise the Sun!", Salt and Sanctuary is a window into what Hidetaka Miyazaki's masterpiece may have looked like, had it initially arrived 25 years ago.
