Cuphead isn't only one of the best looking games of the decade, it's one of the best looking games period. The title was always going to be something special ever since it was first unveiled, with its throwback cartoon aesthetic capturing the imagination of players across the globe, but I don't think anyone realised just how perfectly executed the look was going to be in the final release.

This isn't just a few levels we're talking about here, but an entire game made in this style, with one imaginative boss character being replaced by another at a rate so rapid you sometimes don't appreciate the craft you're witnessing.

It's not just the design of the characters and backdrops though, but the way everything from the animation to the grain of the image works to sell the texture of aesthetic.

Cuphead doesn't look like a new game inspired by thirties' cartoons, it looks like a thirties' cartoon that's somehow been dusted off and made playable on consoles.
