15 Best-Looking Video Games Of The Decade
1. Red Dead Redemption 2
Even though I've spent over 100 hours playing it, I still refuse to believe that Red Dead Redemption 2 exists. Somehow Rockstar has managed to create a game that looks better in motion than in the blown-up stills used to actually sell it, creating a version of the Old West that's bursting with life and personality.
Not only is the landscape varied, from the harsh snowy mountains to the alligator-infested swampland, it's alive with activity. Sun beams through the tall trees of a forest before skipping over the shallow rivers below, themselves shimmering from the fish beneath the surface. Animals grazing in the distance act as the serene backdrop for a visceral bloody shootout, the contrast making even the most rote combat encounter feel like something grand and mythical.
Rockstar execs have mentioned that landscape art was a huge influence on the look of the game, and that comes through in every frame. Standing still in any location pits you against a backdrop so detailed it makes for a perfectly composed image any western movie would die to replicate, and it all functions to create the most immersive gaming experience of the decade.
