15 Best Multiplayer Maps In Gaming History Ranked

12. Shipment - Call Of Duty 4 Modern Warfare

In 2007 Call of Duty 4 unseated Halo by giving the world what it wanted, a fast paced FPS that had players aiming down the sites of modern armaments, finally breaking from the tired World War II aesthetic.

The map that best accentuated the game's characteristics was the tightly packed Shipment. As players ran and hopped across the maze of containers, taking cover and sneaking up on enemies, they came to realize the action was just as contained as everything in those boxes. The smallest map in CoD4 forced the player into action, making them ditch their snipers and claymores for P90s and martyrdom.

Because of the map being so small, kills can come in abundance, meaning players won't play long before hearing CoD4's exhilarating level-up music and challenge-completed riff. Getting the blue tiger camo and those golden weapons just got a lot easier.

The map's size also made it perfect for the 1-on-1 cagematch mode, which made the map seem immense and deep as both players searched for their prey. If they just wanted to farm headshots though, that was also fine since getting to their partner never took that long. Shipment also worked well for the fanmade mode, Michael Myers where one player has to knife the others.

This map in particular helped CoD take the throne as gaming's hottest franchise, epitomizing the game's speed, action, and versatility.
