11. Pillars Of Eternity
Pillars of Eternity is the finest example of the old Wayne's World quote: "If you book it, they will come". Launched as a Kickstarter campaign back in 2012, reaching its goal rather quickly.
And unlike the ongoing will it/won't it of other crowdfunded games like Star Citizen, PoE stood and delivered. Obsidian had proven themselves capable of holding their own in the genre, as was apparent when PoE launched.
Playing akin to the likes of Diablo, Warcraft, Command and Conquer et all, it was the progression system that really mixed things up. Unlike most games, that reward the grind of killing enemies with experience points (for leveling up), PoE had all points locked behind doing quests.
So it meant that stealth could be a viable option too, as the freedom was there to sneak your way to your end goal, should you so choose. Naturally, for those that find stealth boring, you could go in spells blazing if your little heart desired.
Being single player, it allowed you to play to your own style, instead of following the horde.
