15 Best Third-Person Shooters Of The Decade (So Far)

1. Red Dead Redemption - Rockstar Games

Topical, considering the announcement for the sequel.

It speaks volumes when a developer is on a Best Of list multiple times, but it is Rockstar.

When RDR came out, the game was a breath of fresh air because it wasn't often a western game was released, never mind being excellent on the other side. John Marston is a great character to watch and play as, as he's someone who everyone can sympathise AND empathise with, as he attempts to redeem himself due to his past as a gang member.

The atmosphere of the dying west is presented to us with a rich, detailed world, filled to the brim with personality, the soundtrack taking cues from the spaghetti westerns of old that compliment the environments and your immersion.

Even if you stripped all that away, there's still a damn good shooter underneath, utilising the weapons of the era and the Bullet Time-esque Deadeye mode to create thrilling shootouts.

Red Dead Redemption also holds the distinction of containing one of the best DLCs of all time: Undead Nightmare. It's as close to a masterpiece as games can get.
