13. Alan Wake - Remedy

It was natural to expect some great third-person action from Alan Wake, after all, it was made by the same developers who created Max Payne, so expectations would've undoubtedly been high.

Playing as the subject of the game's title, Alan Wake is a man suffering from writer's block, and so he and his wife take a vacation to a small mountain town called Bright Falls.

Despite Alan Wake's focus on the thriller/horror aspects of the game, it did manage to incorporate a new, different and tense, pulse-pounding shooting mechanic which required players to use a flashlight on the enemies, "The Taken"; gradually weakening them until shooting became the full stop at the end of that sentence.

A light was the only means of allowing the player to blast them away, and it sure as hell felt genuinely satisfying - something Quantum Break felt like it lacked.
