The gameplay in the original Dragon's Lair is actually kind of awful by today's standards as it's nothing but quick time events. Dragon's Lair should still be appreciated however as a part of gaming history due to it being one of the frontrunners of storytelling in the medium - even if the story is very basic. The game is also animated by the legendary Don Bluth or "The Land Before Time" and "All Dogs Go to Heaven" fame.

The game truly feels like a playable movie which is something that can be said for many titles nowadays but Dragon's Lair came out back in 1983, this was impressive.

The amazing animation is used to bring one of the most iconic video game dragons to life, Singe.

Whilst Singe does appear in most Dragon's Lair games, it's his appearance in the original that is the most memorable. He kidnaps Princess Daphne and takes her to the titular Dragon's Lair where it's up to you as Dirk the Daring to rescue her. Yeah, it's simple but your encounters with Singe are memorable and for the time they were like nothing else seen in a video game, he was the first video game dragon to have a real sense of presence.
