*Spoilers will follow* Red Dead was one of those titles where right off the bat you knew you were in for something special, although few could have predicted that by game's end you'd actually be completely invested in having to - of your own volition - track down and kill one of the characters. Rockstar have always had a way with taking just the right amount of influence from the right sort of movies to give their own titles a certain edge and attitude, and Red Dead's love letter to all things that took place (or have been romanticised to a degree) in the Wild West is their greatest achievement yet. The cover-based shooting and horse-mounted gunfights you'll have across the Wild West are what make every mission a total joy to undertake (something you can't say for all of Rockstar's titles) and along the way you'll hear John Marston partake in some fantastically insightful social commentary that's still applicable today. However it's when he's suddenly gunned down violently at the close of the game that you might think everything is over, only for you to emerge in the boots of a now far older son Jack, allowing the open world nature of the world to track down the backstabbing Edgar Ross. The real beauty comes in the final few moments, when you find Ross fishing by a riverside, himself an older man partaking in a very civilian activity. You then proceed to gun the man down and send him drifting off down the river, only for the game's title card to pop up and the meaning of the entire game to come full circle from what you thought it was all about in the first place. Spectacular. What's your favourite game of the decade so far? Let us know in the comments, and if there's any you don't think belong here!
