'The Call of Duty Killer' it is not, but ex COD-developer Respawn Entertainment's latest effort definitely ruffled some ghillie-suited feathers being the latest entry in the former military shooter - Advanced Warfare - is also going down the mech-warrior route this year. What a glorious route it is though, as Titanfall delivers one of the most robust and visceral multiplayer experiences of the decade thanks to Respawn taking all the core ingredients of what makes a great COD game (class-based warfare, a laundry list of weapons and a perfect learning curve of accessibility-to-mastery) and chucks in the great big whopping titular 'Titan' mechs into the mix too. The only potential failing here for some players is the lack of a good narrative to propel things along, as despite the featuring of character audio piped in amongst the carnage that attempts to give you some drive to exactly why and what you're blowing the mechanical limbs off, if you're coming to Titanfall for a thrilling narrative - you're completely missing the point. Respawn's latest is a championship-quality thoroughbred built from the ground up to be the most satisfying multiplayer experience on the market, and despite it coming across to some as a controllable fireworks display, for the rest of us it's just too satisfying to care.
