15 Best Video Games Of The Year (So Far)

5. The Walking Dead: Season 2

Okay, this one might raise a few eyebrows as the full product isn't actually out yet - instead Walking Dead's second season of episodes is still being released over the course of a few months. However with the first episode landing in the last few weeks of 2013 and two episodes since then that are more of the same incredibly intense decision-making gameplay, it's safe to say Telltale's landmark series most definitely deserves this spot on the list. For any of the uninitiated (or those that mistakenly bought the TV tie-in game Survival Instinct), Telltale Games' foray into the world of undead nightmares is one brimming with impossibly hard decisions and perfectly written exchanges with a roster of incredibly diverse characters, all battling to survive just another day in a world where every moving thing seems to want their elbows for breakfast. Playing this time round as young girl Clementine - the same small girl you took care of and mentored throughout season 1) it adds a really unique dimension to all of the character-interaction, mostly born out of that inbuilt feeling we all have to prove people wrong if they inherently look down on us. Clem's story is still ongoing, and there have been many bodies felled along the way - but what really makes it stand out as one of the greatest games of the year is in a perfectly-paced encounter with a friendly dog in the first episode; the bonding with which leads to genuinely one of the most harrowing decisions you'll ever have to face in any game across the entire medium.
