15 Biggest WTF Gaming Moments Of 2017 (So Far)

4. What Remains Of Edith Finch Makes You Die In Childbirth

Edith Finch
Giant Sparrow

What Remains of Edith Finch is far more than the mere "walking simulator" that many will glibly dismiss it as. Developer Giant Sparrow's follow-up to their terrific 2012 debut The Unfinished Swan is a haunting examination of the impermanence of life and, indeed, family, which comes complete with a brutal final gut-punch of an ending.

The conclusion reveals that pregnant 17-year-old protagonist Edith, who spends the game venturing around the estate of her deceased family, dies while giving birth to her son a short time later.

What's more, the player is forced to play through this sequence from the perspective of the baby, pushing out of Edith's vaginal canal and performing the act that sadly ends her life.

The final sequence then shows Edith's son some years later, as he reads a note from Edith which reads, "It's a lot to ask but I don't want you to be sad that I'm gone. I want you to be amazed that any of us even had a chance to be here at all." Absolutely brutal, beautiful and very, very WTF.
