2. Battletoads (1991)

Although a single player game, you really need as much help as you can get for this one, and the aforementioned multiplayer format is a must if you want to succeed. Although in a moment of sick, twisted game design, it's really easy to hit and do damage to each other when in battle, not to mention that if just one of you dies then both have to restart the level. Even if you can manage to coexist with your buddy, you won't get very far before you have to face up to the infamous Wind Tunnel (also known as Boost Tunnel) level. Very few players are able to beat this, as it requires the reflexes of a Jedi and a ridiculously high tolerance threshold. Also note, this is still only level three. Then, if you somehow get past that, you'll be greeted by the snake pit at level six. Good luck with that.
