15 Criminally Underrated PS4 & Xbox One Games You Must Play

12. Resident Evil: Revelations 2

With everyone burned out on the franchise after the underwhelming releases of Resident Evil 5 and 6, Capcom returned to the series earlier this year in a rather unique way. Creating a sequel to what was originally a Nintendo 3DS game, the developer brought the Revelations spin-off series to next gen consoles with a divisive episodic format.

While the business model sent just about every player into red alert, it turns out that Revelations 2 actually provided fans of the series with the best entry into the franchise in years. Featuring a terrifying return to the horror of Resident Evil 4, Revelations manages to hit the balance between third person shooting and atmospheric horror in ways that the 5th and 6th entries into the main series could only ever dream of.

Throw in some co-op gameplay that doesn't seem forced (such as giving each character unique abilities, enabling an organic sense of teamwork between the players) and this episodic spin-off felt more interesting, and ultimately more daring than any of the games that came before.

With Revelations 2 and the HD Remaster of the original iconic game both out now, it seems that after years of mediocrity Resident Evil might just be pulling itself out the shambling, by the numbers hole it's for so long been trapped in.
