4. Hive Mind - Dead Space
Y'know how I said some games don't need final bosses? Dead Space is an even bigger example. Sure, it might have the whole "strategic dismemberment" thing as a back-of-the-box quote on how best to fell your foes, but ramping up the intensity and having you fight a huge creature for the sake of it was just forced.
Utilising the controls EA nicked from Resident Evil 4, you awkwardly dodge area-of-effect attacks, and riposte by blasting away some conveniently-highlighted nodes on the thing's face.
Dead Space's shooting was meaty enough to save it from being a total travesty, but it all felt so misplaced, especially when you consider just how meticulously planned the rest of the campaign and its jump-scares felt.
Oh well, at least you weren't fighting a giant moon...
