15 Final Boss Battles That Almost Ruined Great Video Games

1. Frank Fontaine - Bioshock

Speaking of beautiful messes, Bioshock tends to get regarded as the masterpiece that was just one step away from true greatness. That 'one step' being final boss Frank Fontaine, who appears as a giant stone Hulk, dotted with blue Atom-juice directly after you've had your mind blown with all the 'Would you kindly?' shenanigans.

See, creator Ken Levine is noted for liking his games to have brains and braun. In this case, the brains most definitely came during the Andrew Ryan segment, to which he must've thought, "Well, I should have a big dumb boss fight to balance it out!" just for kicks.

You shouldn't of, Ken. You really shouldn't, and now that you have, all of Bioshock's incredible plus points are forever dogged by any image of Mr. Fontaine looking like a diseased Ninja Turtle without its shell.

Which final boss totally left a sour taste as the credits rolled? Let us know in the comments!
