15 Final Boss Battles That Almost Ruined Great Video Games

2. Paul Serene - Quantum Break

Damn the Metacritic consensus, I thought Quantum Break was a right pile of toss personally, and whilst its story was more complex than Metal Gear Solid's 28 year-history played on fast-forward, it's the final showdown against Mr. Serene that really drove me up the wall.

See, both Jack Joyce (that's you) and evil chap Paul 'Littlefinger' Serene have time powers that can apparently cause force-push embued explosions. The difference, is Serene has been faffing about with the possibilities of time-bending for decades, so come the point where you have to fight him, the game resorts to sending a screen-filling 'kill all' attack your way.

Get caught in it and it's game over, instantly, which will happen, because you have to contend with a bunch of other dudes warping around you in groups, too. Shoot these minions, avoid the explosion, shoot Serene, rinse and repeat the magical three times and you're done.

All this is alongside the mind-frazzlingly ridiculous existence of his power-set in the first place. How does time-travel equal explosions? Even if it did, why does such a catastrophic attack only manifest right at the end of the story, and never get mentioned by other characters that would've seen it in action, like the equally trippy Martin Hatch?

Oh Quantum Break, you beautiful mess, you.
