15 Games That MUST Be On The PlayStation Classic
13. Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee
Non-violent resistance is something video games do pitifully, with about 90% of titles on the market that don't involve scheduling bus timetables resolving strife through physical combat. Lorne Lanning's eccentric puzzle-cum-platformer Abe's Oddysee is a testament to the unarmed underdog's ability to beat brawn with brains, as the scrawny hero liberates his brethren without a raising a single fist (even if he does fire the odd telekinetic machine gun).
The game itself is relatively simple - a sort of cinematic cross between Another World and Lemmings - but it's the completely unique setting that makes it stand out. Oddworld's quirky inhabitants aren't the most aesthetically appealing, yet it's impossible not to empathise with Abe's plight as the charm of his crapsack world gradually ensnares you under its Mudokon spell. The PlayStation had more impressive technical showcases, but as Abe's Oddysee's hero proved, it's not always what's on the outside that counts.
