5. Internet Connection
I like my alone time, and as a gamer, I like my single player games. There is nothing quite like kicking back with a good game all to yourself; no one to interfere with your enjoyment. Now it appears game companies are doing everything in their power to make this impossible. Just in the last couple years, more and more games actually need you to be connected to the internet to play, even if the game lacks any form of multiplayer. The legendary ApocalyPS3 of 2010 demonstrated this first hand, keeping gamers from playing many of their single player games. This called into question just how much we actually own of our games. This is a huge issue for me, because, as many of you must know, the internet is an extremely fallible service prone to many bouts of inactivity. The idea that our games are rendered useless if we lack an internet connection is unacceptable, and only shows how dependent weve become on it. Gone are the days when you can just play a game, now we play with the knowledge that this ability can be taken away at any moment. Quite the disheartening notion, is it not?
