15 Greatest Ever Video Game Anti-Heroes
6. Niko Bellic - Grand Theft Auto IV
What is it with Rockstar and having multiple antiheroes to choose from in their respective franchises? Much like the Arthur Morgan/John Marston decision, I had difficult choosing between Carl 'CJ' Johnson and Niko Bellic. Eventually, I chose the latter.
Moving to the land of opportunity based on the lavish lies of his cousin, Niko intends to escape the reach of his former smuggling boss, Ray Bulgarin, who believes Niko double-crossed him. Despite the opportunity for a fresh start, Niko become involved in the criminal underworld of Liberty City very quickly after getting off the boat.
Although he does look out for his cousin as he tries to build up his legitimate taxi cab company and pursues the life of a normal citizen through dating and picking up hobbies, it would appear old habits die hard.
In terms of the crimes he has committed, we can tick off escaping police custody, assault, smuggling, bank robbing, aiding and abetting and murder, and his total kill count stands at over 80 people. That's just the named characters of the game, as well, never mind the countless goons and henchmen.
Whilst many of these people will have been criminals far worse than Niko or simply in self-defence, Niko is not a good man.
And he definitely does not want to go bowling, Roman.
