6. Corvo Attano - Dishonored
Dishonored was a rare gem in that it seemed to come out of nowhere. Many had heard very little about it until around 4 or 5 months before its release at which point it became a very exciting prospect, offering a fantastic amount of choice and options with actually significant consequences. Dunwall was a living, breathing world darkened by plague and corruption with a huge amount of choice and significant consequences for your actions with Corvo at it's centre, the disgraced former bodyguard to the murdered Empress who is bestowed with supernatural abilities, weapons and an awesome mask with which to exact his revenge and clear his name. Given his supernatural abilities like possession and the ability to see through walls, Corvo definitely belongs on the list since he came out of nowhere and delivered a unique experience the likes of which we've never seen before. Many games claim to use the choice and consequence model but Dishonored was arguably the first game that actually put it to good use. That level of choice combined with Corvo's supernatural awesomeness and stealthy assassination abilities made him an excellent protagonist.
High Point For This Character: This largely depended on the choices you made throughout the game, but when Corvo took down his targets, fatal or otherwise, using a variety of supernatural powers and awesome weaponry, it created a variety of opportunities for highlights depending on how you played the game. But many of the fatal endings for the targets were simply brilliant, particularly using the first person perspective that Dishonored employed.
