15 Greatest Gaming Heroes Of The Last Generation

13. Geralt Of Rivia €“ The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings

Geralt The Witcher 2 felt like a particularly grown up RPG compared to most other games in the genre, including rather grim and adult issues in a fantasy context which resulted in a very compelling storyline and a world which felt very much alive. It was a complicated and difficult game that required patience and a certain level of commitment (not Dark Souls difficult, but a challenge nonetheless) but if you stuck it out, assuming the role of the supernatural monster hunter Geralt of Rivia made for an exciting, albeit short story. Geralt was a great protagonist who players thoroughly enjoyed adventuring with, utilising magic, alchemy and badass swordsmanship along the way. In keeping with the dark, adult storyline, the character himself was grim, stoic and what was told of his traumatic back story through cutscenes was quite interesting. With The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt already revealed for next gen consoles, more of this grim back story would make an already great character even more badass. If you've seen the 'Killing Monsters' cinematic trailer for Wild Hunt, you'll also know how much of an awesome fighter Geralt is and how much fun his story is going to be on next gen. If you haven't seen it, watch it. High Point For This Character: With a game featuring this much choice and consequence, player experiences will determine which of Geralt's adventures were his finest, but taking down the Kayran, the huge river monster terrorising the people of Flotsam, was a particular highlight that made players feel indestructible.
