14. Meet The Lickers - Resident Evil 2 (1998)
Unless it's a cooked food item, adding "skinless" before anything is never going to conjure up a pleasant image.
Fortunately, you didn't have to try and imagine what "skinless evolved Crimson Heads" looked like, as you found out pretty earlier on in Resident Evil 2. Admittedly, the Crimson Head evolution is a retcon from the 2001 remake, but it's canon now.
Mimicking the puddle of blood from the first game, it's when the game switches to FMV and we get a glimpse of the leaping, tongue-lashing, sharp clawed monstrosity that our pants were fully soiled.
At least the Hunters gave you a bit of time to warm up to their announcement. Lickers appear in the first twenty minutes or so, plaguing your protagonist through the majority of the game.
Hearing that hiss, the clicking of their claws when you enter a room is enough to put you on edge, before that horrible screech as they leap at you.
Many enemies have been and gone in Resident Evil's lore, but Lickers are always going to be high on anyone's list of feared foe.
