4. Counter Strike - 1st November, 2000
Viewed by many to be the peak of First-Person Shooters, Counter Strike was one of the most revolutionary games ever. Upon its release in late 2000, it instantly set the bar for all shooters that came afterwards. The predecessor to almost all online shooters, Counter Strike had it all. Perfectly balanced teams, a huge variety of maps, an infinite source of enjoyment and a community thats still going strong almost 15 years on (seriously, theres over 400,000 playing at time of writing). It follows the same pattern as the other Counter Strike games, two opposing forces, Terrorists and Counter-Terrorists, with a number of game modes, from simple Death Matches to more complicated modes like Arms Race, Counter Strike offered something for ever kind of player. With a continued thriving community, Counter Strike is still a great choice when searching for your next online shooter. What the critics say: Gamespot: 8.4/10 IGN: 8.9/10 Steam User Reviews: Overwhelmingly Positive (98% Positive) Metacritic: 9/10
