The number one spot on a list can't always be a surprise. To put any other crossover title here other than the Super Smash Bros. series would just be a blatant denial of its quality and fan-devotion. What started out as a fun side project way back on the Nintendo 64 has since exploded into one of the most adored fighting game franchises around the world. With each new iteration comes a grander stage for Nintendo (and other) greats to go toe-to-toe, face-to-face and fist-to-fireball. The mascot brawler is now a flagship property of the Nintendo brand, and so high is its popularity that everyone wants in on the action. Games inspired by its formula are one thing, but the likes of Sega, Konami and Namco have even leant their own world-famous characters to the ever-expanding roster of stars. Every Smash Bros. title is the result of untold amounts of sweat and tears, and it shows in the many different game types, mini-games, fan service and cutesy battle item that you can get your grubby mitts on. It's a party game, and a damn good one at that. Are there any we missed? Let us know your favourite crossover games in the comments below!
