Great ideas don't always translate well to all forms of media - you only have to sit through one of the godawful Aliens Vs. Predator films to learn that much. In sharp contrast to the horrifically pointless Aliens Vs. Predator 2: Requiem, the AVP games have been brilliant, mainly because they give fans of both franchises exactly what they want - the ability to play as Xenomorphs, Predators and - if you're boring - the colonial marines. The holy trinity of man versus alien versus er, slimier alien works brilliantly. Evolve is another example of how well the concept of being able to play the hunter or the hunted can work, but Aliens Vs. Predator utilises the formula best. Just don't expect to play as the Predator too often - everyone wants to be him. Hardly surprising, he's the Alpha among a herd of Betas - ready to blow a hole through anything with hot, lasery death.
