15 Most-Anticipated Video Games Of 2019

14. WB Montreal's Upcoming DC Game

Wonder Woman Montreal 2
Warner Bros./Marco Nelor

Release Date: TBD

By the time we see the next DC comic book video game, it'll have been four years at least since Batman: Arkham Knight launched on consoles, and crashed on PCs. During that time, the only releases of note to feature superheroes have been Injustice 2 and Spider-Man PS4. Both were met with an emphatic response (the latter especially), but it's only a matter of time until Warner Bros. return to make the genre their own once more.

While the world awaits an announcement of what Rocksteady have been up to since they wrapped development on Arkham Knight, one studio that many have potentially forgotten about is Warner Bros. Montreal. Years of developmental problems including a scrapped Suicide Squad game and even a Damian Wayne Batman project finally look set to end this year, with various members of the studio having took to social media to tease 'Project Redacted' over the last few months.

What that project actually is seems to vary month to month, but two likely candidates emerged just before Christmas: a sequel to Arkham Origins featuring the Court of Owls; or a game revolving around Princess of Diana of Themyscira - Wonder Woman.

Whatever WB Montreal are up to, there's plenty of cause to be excited. The studio boast a talented team and even if there's no chance of a DC project releasing in 2019, you can expect an announcement to come at some point during the year.

Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
