Metacritic Score: 87 (PS4) Much like MGS V, it's hard to argue with Fallout 4's ambition, but that doesn't begin to compensate for its overwhelming flaws which prevent it from being more than merely an enjoyable, value-for-money RPG shooter. Where to begin? On a technical level, the game is a total embarrassment: the graphics are incredibly dated for a 2015 game, bugs abound frequently, the user interface is a total mess, and basic facets of gameplay aren't even explained properly to the player, if at all. The new dialogue wheel is a step backwards, the story is meanwhile merely satisfactory, and as usual, it's the wealth of side content that truly makes the game what it is. When the player's adventure eventually comes to an end, they'll feel as exhausted and drained as their character, though they'll probably have expected a little more innovation considering that it took so much time coming to gamers. Though FO4 has been enormously successful, Bethesda might want to invest in a new engine and a bright new batch of writers if they want the inevitable fifth game to enjoy the same favour.
